Photoflex Provides for MasterCraft
MasterCraft® Safety is the parent company of Impact®, which offers a full complement of industry-leading racing safety equipment, including helmets, driving and crew suits, race seats, window nets, and race restraints. MasterCraft contacted Photoflex, since they were looking to bring their photography in-house at their Impact location in Brownsburg, IN. After months of planning, Team Photoflex flew out to the Impact headquarters to help them set up their new lighting studio and run through various lighting techniques with the Impact crew.
After a tour of the facilities, Team Photoflex was put to work setting up the studio space, reviewing the products and explaining the basic principles of lighting. They also demonstrated hard and soft light and demonstrated several approaches to product photography. Thoughout the two days they were there, the team discussed power ratios, light placement, controlled lighting styles, bounce light, and digital imaging techniques. A lot of information to digest in a short amount of time, but the Impact crew was able to grasp the concepts.
"The Photoflex staff was really helpful in that they came and explained each and every product we received, helped us to visualize different lighting needs for the products we'll be dealing with most, and actually walked us through actual test photo shoots. I think the most helpful thing was the fact that they didn't just tell us directly what to do, During the process, they asked us what we thought needed to be done to produce a better photo, and helped lead us to the solutions we needed to implement. Overall it was a great learning experience and an introduction to their equipment line. With some time behind the camera coming, I'm sure we'll be shooting pro-quality shots soon, and they even offered to lend advice as we go if we ever need it,” said Bob Peele, Art Director at Impact.
Results of the new studio and product shoot were excellent and a good job done for Impact and Team Photoflex.
In a related event happening this weekend 7/27-7/28, Pro Showcase photographer Ian Spanier will be headed to Indianapolis to shoot portraits on location at the Brickyard 400 Race. He and his assistant will be photographing drivers sponsored by Impact, the pit crew, and fans with a mobile lighting setup. Stay tuned for a series of LiteBlog posts and PLS Lessons!
