How One Photo Changed the World

Well, okay it wasn’t just the photo – it was a little bit of retouching too. Changed the world?!?!? Really? Read the story and form your own opinion: By Matthew Brady - This photo changed the course of history In February 1860 Abraham Lincoln, a country lawyer and Illinois State Representative, began his run for President of the United States. He was a brilliant political strategist, spellbinding speaker, engaging humorist and by all accounts… a frighteningly tall and gaunt man. When he took the stage at the Cooper Union Building in New York City to formally begin his...

Window light and a LiteDisc reflector. In the previous blog, “Creating a Home Studio Part 1”, I described the basic elements that comprise a “studio” and went on to list some lighting scenarios. In this installment, and those to come, we’ll be covering some more detailed approaches to making your home studio work for you. As I pointed out in Part 1, WINDOW LIGHT portrait techniques supported working photographers from 1880-1925. Although that career may not be possible today, you can benefit from their approach and create wonderful images. It's not rocket science. The image...

WPPI Day Two

If yesterday was busy, today was a frenzy. In the Photoflex booth. Photo by Billy Pegram. With some pretty compelling keynote speakers at our booth, we saw a lot of traffic today. We started off with Greg Sargent and Billy Pegram, followed later with both Lee Morris and Patrick Hall of fstoppers.com, and ended with Michael Corsentino. Michael personally drew quite the crowd during his demonstration with the TritonFlash (a product with which he has recently become very familiar due to some pretty amazing location shoots over the past three weeks). Tomorrow we end with Blair Bunting and Ron...

WPPI Day One

WPPI is the firsttrade showI have ever worked, and man was it a blast. For a solid six hours our booth saw a steady stream of traffic from pros andamateursalike. With the capability to shoot at a blistering 7 frames per second, a minimum...
