Jay P. Morgan: Making Strobes and Daylight Work Together

This Spring, Jay P. Morgan set out with his crew to the Bonneville Salt Flats to create some surreal images. In the video, you'll see how to blend strobes with daylight so that your images do not look artificially lit. Jay P. demonstrates a method he uses to better visualize and control what his strobes are doing when the modeling lights are not bright enough to guide him.

Jay P. Morgan: Depth of Field as a Creative Tool

In this video lesson, I wanted to demonstrate how depth of field can be used as a creative tool. I brought a crew out to Vasquez Rocks and used a simple two-light setup to shoot my beautiful model, Gabrielle Tuite. Here, you'll see how different focal lengths can give you different depth of field options. You'll see what lens choice will give you a shallow depth and what lens choice will give you a more scenic deep depth of field.        Location Vasquez is the perfect place to look at depth of field. It'...

Laura Tillinghast: A Multi-Talented Go-Getter

In addition to shooting stunning portraiture and conducting first rate lighting workshops, Pro Showcase Laura Tillinghast is also a pretty good baker.  We know this because she just sent us a box of her delicious homemade cookies this week.  "I love to bake and do a lot of it when I am not shooting," she admits.  We size her up as a "pretty good" baker because clearly, she doesn't have a lot of down time with her photography. In early June of this year, we discovered Laura's work in Profesional Photographer magazine and the fact...

Scott Stulberg and Joel Grimes Photo Co-Op

If you read our post last week on our Featured Pro: Scott Stulberg, hearing that Scott still considers himself a student won't be news to you. Though he is a popular and well respected teacher and workshop leader himself, Scott still goes out of his way to attend workshops. His philosophy has him always learning and improving, and that is what keeps Scott's images continually relevant and gorgeous. Recently he attended one of Joel Grimes' workshops (a fellow Photoflex Pro)in southern California. Scott was so psyched about the techniques he learned from Joel that he couldn'...

Photoflex Featured Pros- September 2011

We are kicking off September by honoring another globetrotting pro who now focuses his efforts on education- Scott Stulberg. Scott is most well known for his killer travel photography and many of his images are available as stock photos. His work has been used by Microsoft, Newsweek, and The New York Times, as well as for greeting cards, calendars, and book covers. If it's an amazing stock image, it is likely Scott's. We recently talked with Scott about his more recent photographic endeavors and what he is doing to improve himself and those around him. Photoflex: Scott, how...

ZoomStreet Magazine Product Review

This past weekend an email graced my inbox that put a smile on my face: ZoomStreet Magazine gave us quite a nice review for our LiteDome®: extra small location kit! Here is what they had to say: "Photoflex® is offering strobists their kit of kits- a bundle of joy for globe-jogging shooters. It's called the Location Kit, but it's really several kits rolled into one. If you've ever suffered a mid-light crisis on location- (Damn, if I'd only packed a..." or "If I only had a..." or "How the hell can I..?")- this...
